"
I WONDER" / "SOMETHING"
SINGLE RELEASED ON SEPTEMBER 6th 2004
From
Anaheim, California, and with an average age of only 20 years
old, The Willowz are Richie James Follin (Lead Vocals &
Guitar), Jessica Reynoza (Bass & Vocals) and Alex Willow
(Drums).
Garage
rock, blues and soul, 80's punk and 60's rock'n'roll are all
words that people have used to describe them. What is clear
is that they make music that predates their years somewhat.
Clocking
in at a rapid 20 minutes over nine tracks, their debut and
self-titled mini-album is available in the States on tiny
independent, Dionysis. Recorded in just three days and despite
the band treating it as their "demo tape", it successfully
translates their exciting talent on to record and heavily
hints at their bright future ahead. Both 'I Wonder' and 'Something'
originally appeared on said record.
As
well as releasing their first material, this year has also
seen them get an incredible start to their career. Michel
Gondry (he of Björk, Chemical Brothers and White Stripes
video directorial fame) discovered them whilst scouring the
web for music for his film, 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless
Mind' and, upon loving what he had stumbled upon, promptly
used 'Something' to soundtrack a scene with Kirsten Dunst
dancing around in her underwear. Not the sort of thing that
happens everyday then.
It
doesn't end there though. Michel has gone on to fund and make
a suitably odd video for "I Wonder" for them. Filmed
entirely in black and white and starring Richie, it quirkily
captures the mood of the record and leaves you in no doubt
that the Willowz star is rising
"I
Wonder" / "Something" will be available on
7" only.
Brand new material from The Willowz will follow shortly.
